Martin Luther King
Most years Martin Luther King Jr. Day comes and goes with little to no thought from me. This year, however; thanks to my son it has become one of the most meaningful days of the year to me. Mack came home from school today and told Brooke that they had learned about MLK and that he really liked him. She questioned what he liked most about MLK. At first he was hesitant and then with tears in his eyes he replied: "because he made it so I can play with white kids."
Tonight I came home from work and put my arms around Mack and said "My boy you are not lucky to play with them, they are lucky to play with you." We tell our children frequently that our skin may be different colors, but our hearts are the same.
Thank you Martin Luther King Jr. for your dream and vision. My family is one of the many blessed by your influence.
